Trust, but verify

The phrase “Trust, but verify” comes from a Russian proverb, made popular by President Ronald Reagan in negotiations with the former Soviet Union. Our technology trust decisions cause us to rely on others, whether they design, build, sell or manage systems and devices we use. Trade-offs exist between our desire for security and convenience.
